UI Library Holdings, Slavic & East
European Library, Slavic Reference Service
The Library of the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign
has over eight million volumes, making it first in size among state
university libraries and third among all university libraries in
the nation. Holdings in Slavic and East European languages now total
about 683,960 volumes. In addition there are over 117,000 volumes
on Russia and Eastern Europe in Western languages. The Slavic and
East European Library contains work stations for readers, a collection
of basic reference works, current issues of over 1,000 periodicals
and 110 newspapers in Western and area languages. The librarians
of the Slavic and East European Library and the Slavic Reference
Service are readily available to provide reference and bibliographic
service to researchers. This combination of resources and personnel
creates a setting that many users have called the most efficient
place in the world in which to do research in this field.
