FLAS Fellowships for Academic Year 2008–2009 and Summer 2008
FLAS Fellowships are administered by the University of Illinois National Resource Centers and are awarded competitively through an annual competition. Students from all departments and professional schools are encouraged to apply. Please read all instructions carefully before you begin the application procedure.
REEEC FLAS fellowships may be used for the study of a language of Russia, Eastern Europe, or the post-Soviet successor states. Priority is given to the study of less commonly taught languages. In exceptional circumstances awards may be used for dissertation
research abroad. To apply for a FLAS fellowship, please read the instructions below.
Summer 2008: REEEC has five summer FLAS fellowships to award for summer 2008. The awards carry a stipend of $2,500 plus tuition and fees of $4,000. Students applying to a program were the tuition and fees are more than $4,000 (including approximately $500 in UIUC fees) MUST secure additional sources of funding. Personal funds are not an option.
Students desiring to study overseas are advised to confer with the REEEC FLAS coordinator early in the planning process and should also apply for other sources of funding. Many of these have earlier application dates. Refer to the Summer FLAS Programs page for additional information and requirements.
