2007 Curriculum Development Workshop on Russia

June 20 - 24, 2007

The 2007 Workshop was held as a pre-departure workshop for the Fulbright-Hays short-term seminar in Russia in summer 2007 and was open only to the Fulbright seminar participants.

The Russian, East European, and Eurasian Center (REEEC) in conjunction with the Office of Continuing Education at the University of Illinois invited K-12 educators to take part in this five-day workshop to develop a more effective curriculum on Russia, which was incorporated into a variety of courses, such as world geography, world cultures, world/U.S. history, politics, and economics.  The workshop featured presentations by U of I faculty and other specialists.

The five-day workshop included the following sessions:

  • Sessions on Russian geography, history, culture, literature, politics, and economics
  • Sessions on curricular resources and lesson plan development

The workshop was held in conjunction with the REEEC Summer Research Laboratory on Russia, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia (SRL), which brought over 100 scholars to the University of Illinois to conduct research in its world-renowned Slavic Library. The workshop participants had opportunities to interact with scholars in the SRL and participate in some of its programming.
