About the Community
At the crossroads between Chicago, St. Louis, and Indianapolis, Champaign–Urbana, home to the University of Illinois, is a place where the sense of community found in small cities and towns meets the outstanding cultural and entertainment opportunities usually associated with major metropolitan areas. The campus offers rich experiences beyond the classroom, from the best performing arts to Big Ten sports. Performance centers and theatres present some of the world’s finest operas, ballets, and plays, and auditoriums host popular performers of music and shows. Great museums, lectures, and presentations by the world’s top scholars enrich both the campus and the community; the community one of the most cosmopolitan of the state outside of Chicago.
Champaign–Urbana offers its residents some of the finest services around. It is home to two regional medical centers, and the school districts have an extremely low student-to-teacher ratio of just 13:1. For FAO’s Scott Air Force Base, home of the 375th Airlift Wing and the joint forces United States Transportation Command, is only 3 hours from Champaign–Urbana.
