    Commencement and Graduation Information

The University, individual colleges, and even individual departments host ceremonies to recognize students for their academic accomplishments. Most of the ceremonies are held at the conclusion of the spring semester. Below are the steps you, as a student, need to go through to register your intent to graduate, how to register for the Social Science Convocation ceremony, and links to sites with additional information that you will need.

For general information on graduation—requirements, conferral dates, diplomas, FAQ's—see the OAR webpage on Graduation.

Notification of Intent to Graduate
Undergraduate Students: You must notify the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences of your intent to graduate. This is done at the same time that you register for your final semester of classes through the student registration system. If, for some reason, you did not do so, contact your admissions/records officer after the tenth day of class.

Graduate Students: In order to graduate, you must fill out and submit the Application for Degree available on the Graduate College web site. This can be filled out on-line, but must be submitted to Admissions and Records either by email, fax, or campus mail.

Social Science Convocation Ceremony
All REEEC students can participate in the Social Science Convocation Ceremony. This is a smaller ceremony and takes place the day before the campus wide Commencement Ceremony, usually the second Saturday in May. Go to LAS Social Science Convocation webpage for more information on the ceremony and to register for the ceremony. Registration for this ceremony is separate from the registration for the campus Convocation Ceremony. The registration deadline is 10 April by 5:00 PM. Registration is online.

Academic Attire
All graduates participating in the campuswide Commencement ceremony as well as the Social Science Convocation are required to wear appropriate academic attire. Academic attire consists of a cap, a gown and, in the case of a graduate degree, a hood. Attire can be ordered on-line from the campus Commencement web site or from the Social Science Convocation Ceremony website.
